Language, contents

Manuscripts can be written in German or English; abstracts may also be in other languages.Contributions may deal with all aspects of entomology and rearing and entomological travel reports.

All manuscripts submitted will be reviewed by the editorial board. An additional review process through external — usually anonymous — specialists will usually also be employed. The editorial board decides about acceptance with or without revision.

Size, format and submittance

Scientific contributions usually have 2 or more printed pages (ca. 4 manuscript pages). Entomological notes and other small contributions usually have between ½ and 2 printed pages.

Manuscripts are to be submitted as electronic file and one printout.

Files may be submitted on 3½-inches floppy disks (MS-DOS/Windows formatted), CD-ROMs (ISO 9660 or Joilet), or by email attachment in equivalent format. Text files may be in all formats which can be opened or converted by MS WinWord 6.0–2000; graphics and picture files may be in all formats which can be opened by Adobe Photoshop 5.5 (PSD, JPG, TIF, BMP etc.). The printout (in A4 or letter size) should have a white fringe of 2.5 cm on all four sides and should be printed in 1.5 linefeed.

The only allowed additional typographic format is italics (for scientific species and genus names). All other formats like, e.g., bold or CAPITALS  or  s p a c i n g  must not be used.

The gender symbols or are either written in words or may be coded as follows:

: male, { or #m
: female, } or #w
Illustrations

Photographs are to be mounted in such a way that the printing size of 18 cm width and 26 cm height can be used in an optimal way. The photographs are to be lettered and numbered as written in the legend. Mounted plates must not exceed 29.7 cm × 42 cm (standard size A3) before reduction for print. Plates wider than high will be reduced in width to the maximal printing width and will be printed upright. Single pictures may be printed in one-coloumn width (8.75 cm). Preferably submit only electronic illustrations in sufficient quality for print!

Drawings and graphics are to be delivered as china ink originals or as computer graphic laser printouts without greyscale or halftones. Line drawings must be delivered in a size not larger than A4 (21 cm × 29.7 cm); if necessary, single object drawings should be delivered singly, without mounting to plates.

Preferably, all illustrations should be provided in digital form; provided that the quality is adequate for print and compatible to the equipment used at our end. For details see in the “FAQs” (presently not yet available in English) or ask the editor () directly, or have a short look here for general technical requirements in English for digital illustrations.

All legends are to be placed at the end of the text file. All illustration files must be delivered as separate picture files, not embedded into the text files. No MS-PowerPoint files can be accepted!

Descriptions of new taxa

For all taxonomic work the actual rules of the ICZN in force must be obeyed. Holotypes are to be deposited in a public museum collection.

References

All literature cited in the text is to be listed in a references section at the end of the publication in front of the legends. The form of the citations has to follow this scheme (especially the punctuation):

Firstauthor, I. I., & Secondauthor, I. I. (year): Full title of the publication. — Full name of journal, publisher locality, volume: firstpage–lastpage.

All publications listed in the references section must also be cited within the text in the form (Firstauthor & Secondauthor year).

Examples and further details can be found in the FAQs (to be published in English at a later time; see in the German FAQs!) or in recently published issues of NEVA.

Separates

For scientific contributions published in NEVA, the author(s) will receive a total of 25 free separates per publication. All separates will be sent to one of the authors only; over 1 kg of weight the postage for the parcel has to be payed by the author.

Since 2006 (= vol. 27 of NEVA), authors additionally receive a free PDF copy of their contribution. This PDF version may be used by the authors only for private exchange with colleagues and for sending it on request. Free online-access to this file (e.g., on a homepage) is not allowed without explicite written permission by the editor. Commercial selling is prohibited.

FAQs

For further important details and a lot of other information please refer to the FAQ pages “How to write contributions for NEVA” on our homepage under the URL:
http://www.apollo-frankfurt.de/NEVA/faq-e.html this file is not yet available, it will be provided at a later time (abbreviated compared to the German version)

Only the German version of the Guidelines for Authors and the German version of the FAQs are the definitive ones when questions about different interpretations arise. The German version sometimes contains more details than the English one.

The present guidelines including the [German] FAQs are obligatorily valid for all authors since July 1999 and must be the basis for all manuscript submissions.

This text is updated without notice as often as required. Therefore, please check this page every time before you submit a manuscript.

Contact:
We provide all e-mail addresses here only as graphic files, not supported by the HTML  code. This is to avoid the work of automatic email address retrieval programs and afterwards the abuse of these for spam mailing. So, anybody interested to take up correspondence must copy the address by hand and type in by hand into his mailing program. Sorry for any inconvenience, but this is the only way to avoid spam mailing at the longer view.
